Abstract
This research describes the significance of lupakan as part of local culture and its symbolism as reflected in the values and characteristics of Batangueňos. This study is a qualitative-phenomenological research designed to gather the narratives and experiences of the participants of the study. The testimonies of the participants which were obtained through oral interviews were coded and thematically analyzed. The respondents of the study consisted of 30 participants from different areas in Batangas province. Findings revealed three themes namely, community identity reflected in lupakan; attributes of Batangueňos as symbolized in lupakan and techniques for reviving this culture. The study also found that lupakan helps shape human identities and community traits necessary for cultural preservation and community development. The proponents created an infographic and documentary video to preserve and promote the value of lupakan and spread its unique culture to future generations. The implications of the study underlined the importance of local study as a key to community development and appreciation of the diversity of cultures from different places.
